Here it is almost the end of August and I haven't sent out my "summer newsletter" yet, which I usually try to get done by the summer solstice. So I'm a bit late. And the wine crush is just around the corner.
As a convenience for winemakers during the crush as well as our brewing customers we'll be open during the Labor Day weekend. We'll have regular hours on Saturday the 30th of August and shorter hours on Monday the 1st of September (Labor Day.) Call first on Monday to double check our timing.
Wine
Speaking of wine, I've been busy bottling my own wine, and it all tastes pretty good to me. We have a good selection of bottles this summer, at good prices: Bordeaux or Burgundy, 750, 375, and even 187's. This year we have a selection of different corks to choose from: synthetic, conglomerate, or whole cork. We have a larger stock of foils and shrink sleeves in sock now, some custom colors which will match up with your labels.
The wine equipment has arrived in the shop! I ordered a bigger selection of inventory this year, and it is going fast. The best deals are happening now, so I can pay back what I borrowed to buy this stuff. So don't leave it too late, if you're thinking of purchasing a new piece of equipment this season. I have a few stainless tanks left from last year, as you know most things are more expensive this year, so don't wait too long to get what you'll need sooner or later anyways. We've got a wide variety of fresh yeast in the fridge, nutrients, chemicals, and enzymes.
Beer
The brewers have been fairly busy this summer, as we all know from the samples which show up in the fridge on a regular basis. The hop situation hasn't been resolved yet, but we still have over 35 varieties in the freezer. My own home grown hop are getting close to ripe, I should be making some beer with them this weekend, and the bulk of them will be ready to pick in another couple of weeks. I am trying out some malts which are showing up on recipes frequently, and if there is enough positive interest, they'll become part of the regularly available grains. I've also picked up some used kegs, a homebrew kegerator, and other used brewing equipment. Ask me about it the next time you're in here.
The Plastic Conical fermenters have been selling well recently, both for beer and wine makers. I haven't used one myself yet, but I love the Blichmann Stainless conical for beer-making.
We have been out of the Belgian dark candi sugar lately, but talked to the owner the other day and he assured me they would ship some to me this week. I hope it hasn't gone up in price!
Special Deal
I'm overstocked with wine bottles, so for every 10 cases you buy you'll get one free! Many different colors and molds are available, and I forgot to mention earlier that I also have 1.5 liter magnums.
Give us a call or drop by if you have any questions. You can find our number as well as our usual hours on our new website at
